Hello!
Has anyone else out there had issues with App Server dropping printers? Here is what we're seeing:
We have set up auto jobs to run at various points during the day. When we upgraded to SL 2011 FP1 a month ago, we rebuilt all jobs and everything was chugging along nicely. We installed the correct printers to these servers and the reports were printing out as expected. Periodically, we are finding that an App Server Job will start on time, then not be able to find the printer. Nothing on the job has changed from the day before when the last run was successful. From our log file:
On the 9th line down it says that the printer the job is set to print to does not exist. Then, it tries to "print" it to the document writer instead.
The warehouse 1 printer is the default windows and default SL printer on this box and for this user. The job ran fine up until yesterday, and then it suddenly freaked out and couldn't find it.
The issue with this is that we don't get alerts unless the App Server window is closed. In this case, it kept running as expected and this job was considered completed, though it didn't actually print anything.
Why is this happening? How can App Server be unable to find the printer when nothing on this server has changed?
This particular report is a custom report, however it has been working fine with other runs during the day (and on other servers - we have 4 companies each with their own App Server) and when it drops the printer we have to cancel the master job and rebuild it. It then works fine again. We find the same random printer dropping on our Sales Journal and other various reports as well. Once the job is rebuilt it runs for around a week and then drops.
Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!
