Microsoft Dynamics SL has taken a big step forward in making its solution more accessible for users. They have introduced a new service called Web Apps, which allow access to Dynamics SL via tablets & smartphones. This functionality is currently available for Project roles in Microsoft Dynamics SL, but eventually will roll out to other areas in Dynamics SL.
Web Apps work by creating a connection to the Microsoft Dynamics SL database through Web Services, which are a way to get data in and out of Dynamics SL. The next step is a new user interface to connect to the web service and then Dynamics SL
Web Apps currently working with Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011 include:
Project Time Entry with support for Project Flex Time (PFT) as well as the standard Time Entry feature
Project Correcting Timecards – the ability to enter correcting timecards
Project T-type Timecard support – T-types are created in the rich client and allow the entry of timecard information. Users then open the timecard in Web Apps to review and submit.
Project Expense Entry (with attachments) –works quite well with devices, like tablets and phones that have cameras to attach pictures of receipts on the fly.
Project Expense Reports – An expense receipt report is available to print out as needed.
Project Time & Expense Approval
Project Analyst – Project Analyst features found in the rich client and business portal are now available through an SSRS report server and accessible on desktops, tablets and smartphones.
